Alleging deceptive trade practices, the Texas attorney general settled its lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson, which was accused of knowing its pelvic mesh could cause potentially severe side effects like chronic pain and increased incontinence but failed to warn doctors or patients.
The mesh manufacturer agreed to pay 42 states a total of $116.9 million. In Texas, its share amounting to $8.8 million will be split between the attorney general’s office and a fund covering legal costs for the poor.
Mesh victims will get nothing from this settlement, but many still hope for their day in court.
